We will
strive to provide a fair and family-oriented facility for the racers.
The following rules are an attempt to have some standard guidelines in
force for kart racing at Stateline. It
is our intention to do our best to enforce these established rules as written. This
is a family-friendly facility and any inappropriate words and/or actions will
not be tolerated. Track
management reserves the right to allow or disallow any driver from race
competition that refuses to respect these rules.
GENERAL
INFORMATION: SAFETY
is PRIORITY #1
Safety
Equipment: Approved Snell 2000 or newer full-face helmet and neck brace;
long pants; shoes; gloves and jacket are required. It
is strongly recommended to have rib protectors in junior classes.
Safety
Inspection: It is the
responsibility of the driver to have his/her kart and helmet safety inspected
before their first session of hot laps. If
approved, a track official will affix an annual safety inspection sticker to the
kart. Only safety-approved
karts are allowed to enter the track.
No
Driving in the Pits: Absolutely
no driving a kart in the pits. After
a race, driver will exit the track, shut off their engine before the scale pad
(includes those not going over the scales), get their kart weighed and then
clear the scales. Kart should be
pushed away or put on a rolling kart stand from the scale area.
Tire
Rule: All karts must run Burris
tires (slick only, any size/compound) at all events except Kid Karts.
Jr.
and Sr. Champ classes must run Burris spec tires.
Engine,
Chassis & Bodywork Specs: Per
2006 WKA Tech Manual (plus: stock length, unaltered billet rod is allowed). Must
run RLV mufflers in all classes except for Opens, Sr. Champs and Kid Karts.
Pit
Space Area: Please keep all
containers properly labeled in your trailer and pit area. It
is strongly recommended for every race team to have a fire extinguisher with
their racing inventory at the track.
Mandatory
Drivers Meeting: All racers
must attend the driver’s meeting.
Mandatory
Rule: Scoring tower and flag
stand are off-limits during race events.
If you have a question regarding a racing line-up or procedure, please go
the registration office.
Number
Panels: Four numbers are to be
displayed on the kart. One at the
front; on both sides in a vertical plane between front and rear wheels; and at
the rear of the kart to be viewed from behind.
They
must be of adequate size (6 inch minimum) and color to be readily readable to
the scoring and race officiating personnel.
It is strongly recommended to use black on white OR white on black, basic
style numbers. Only one or two
digit numbers will be scored (no alphabetic characters).
Reserved numbers are available for the season at a cost of $5.00 per
kart/per class. If kart
numbers are not readable, you will be asked to change them before you can
compete again and be scored. Failure
to make kart numbers legible after requested to do so, will result in your kart
not being scored. Hence forfeiture
of your finishing position and payout you would have earned.
Basic
Safety Issues: No bikes,
skateboards, scooters, 4-wheelers, etc. allowed in the pits.
All pets must be on a leash. Parents/Guardians
are required to be present with small children in the playground area and keep
them with you at all times.
No
Alcoholic Beverages permitted: Anyone
found drinking during a race event or under the effects of alcohol (or drugs)
will be asked to leave the premises immediately under the care of a sober
individual.
Pit
Passes: Everyone entering the
restricted pit area must have purchased a pit pass, as well as read and signed
all the mandatory insurance paperwork before each and every event. Anyone
found intentionally trying to avoid following pit pass procedures (i.e. jumping
the fence or with a spectator pass wristband) will be escorted off the premises;
as well as suspended and fined at the track management’s discretion.
Stateline
Speedway Dirt Karting Membership: Kart
racers in most classes have the opportunity to become a Stateline Speedway
member. Please see the application
form available in the registration office for membership rules and requirements.
Membership is optional to be allowed to race.
Discussion
of Calls: All decisions and
judgments made by track officials are final and not open to debate.
After all race activities are done for the evening (final checkered flag
is waved); you may approach the race director/flagman in a calm, productive
manner to discuss why a certain call was made if you disagree.
We are not perfect and are open to constructive criticism that can
improve our racing program.
Race
director may also be contacted via phone or email within 3 days of the race.
Using the Stateline Speedway website to complain about the track or
officials, may result in being banned from track premises at the discretion of
track management. We reserve the
right to refuse admission to anyone for any reason.
Waiver
of Responsibility: Track and
track management are not responsible for accidents of any kind and are not
responsible for stolen or damaged property.
Race participants and pit pass holders must read and sign insurance forms
before each and every race event. Copies
are available upon request.
RACE
PROCEDURES:
Heat
Races: Each driver will need to
register to race their kart in the appropriate class by
Upon
doing so, they will pay the entry fee and pull a numbered chip to determine the
starting
lineup
for Heat Race #1. Classes
will be divided so that there are no more than 10 racers in a heat.
The
entire Heat #1 field will be inverted for the line-up of Heat Race #2.
Heat
race laps are as follows:
Guaranteed
Money Classes: 10 laps
All
other classes: 8 laps
(except for classes with 3 or less karts will race 6 laps)
Track
management reserves the right to reduce number of laps (example: inclement
weather).
Anyone
wishing to enter race competition after the registration deadline, will start
“scratch” which means at the tail of both heat races.
Starting position for feature race is based on heat race finishes.
If
you are a new driver (or had to repair your kart) and wish to start on the tail
of the field, please inform a track official in advance before the race line-up
is posted.
Feature
Races: Starting line-up
positions for the features are determined by the combination of both your heat
race finishes. Any ties for
position will be broken by the lowest numbered chip which the driver pulled at
registration being awarded the favored position.
No more than 14 karts will start in a feature event (track management may
make an exception to this policy).
Feature
race laps are as follows:
1
kart = 8 laps
2
or 3 karts = 12 laps
4
or 5 karts = 15 laps
6
or more karts = 20 laps (*Except
for Kid Kart and Jr. I Novice classes will be 15 LAPS)
Working
on Karts: No work on karts will
be permitted on the track. Once a
kart exits the track it will not be permitted to re-enter the track for the race
that is being run. If a race is
underway which a driver did not meet the time-frame on the line-up grid, it will
not be permitted to enter the track during that race.
Entering
the Track: All karts will enter
the track at the entrance gate only. If
the entire field is present and lined up on the grid correctly, there will NOT
be a parade lap as they enter the track for a race. Stay
at a nice, slow, and even pace and be prepared to go green flag racing at the
green cone between turns 3 and 4. It
is the driver’s responsibility to check the lineup board and be race-ready
when it is their turn to race. Please
alert the gatekeeper if a fellow driver has not yet made it to the grid, so an
announcement can be made to continue the flow of race activities. If
a driver is unable to get a kart started on the grid or knows he/she is unable
to make a race, please communicate with the gatekeeper.
Every attempt will be made to allow the driver to race, however; after 90
seconds total the gate will be shut and will not be opened until the next race.
EXITING
THE TRACK: When exiting the
track during or at the end of the race get to the top side of the track, get
your hand up in the air and SLOW DOWN coming off the track and down the lane to
the scales.
GREEN
FLAG STARTS: The
driver in the pole position has the responsibility to bring the double-filed
field around at a nice, slow, and even pace.
It is the outside pole position’s responsibility to stay even with the
pole setter until they reach the GREEN cone between turns 3 and 4.
At the GREEN CONE, if this is accomplished, it is a green flag race!
Each class will be given two (2) opportunities to start the race in a
double-file lineup. Then after 2
attempts, they will be given a third opportunity in a single-file formation to
start the race. If they can not get
the race started on the 3rd attempt: the
entire field will be sent off the track (using the usual exit manner) and must
bring their karts back around on the grid to wait for the next class in line to
run their race. Then they will be
sent back onto the track in single-file formation and given a 4th and
final attempt to get the race started. If
they fail on the 4th attempt, the race will be scored as the lineup
was posted. If either kart on the
front row tries to jump the start before the green cone they will be given one
warning and if they jump the start the second time, the kart that jumped will be
put to the tail. If it is
determined by the officials that a racer intentionally spun to bring out a
caution before the first lap is complete, that kart will be put to the tail.
RE-STARTS
AFTER CAUTION FLAG: A
“restart” after a race has received the green flag and the entire field has
successfully completed at least one racing lap, will follow these rules:
The restart will be single file with the pole sitter maintaining a slow
pace coming into turn one. All
karts will be nose to tail with no pushing or brake checking.
The pole sitter may start the race anytime BETWEEN the green cone coming
out of turn two and the orange cone in the middle of the backstretch.
The race is automatically a green flag race when the pole setter reaches
the orange cone. The race leader
will not accelerate before the green cone coming out of turn #2.
The race leader can accelerate anytime after the green cone in
turn #2 and must accelerate by the orange cone in the backstretch.
All karts are to keep to the right side of the orange cone.
If the leader jumps the start prior to the green cone in turn #2, he/she
will be docked 2 positions at the end of the race. No
kart is permitted to pass before the restart cone on the backstretch (between
turns 2 and 3). If a kart does pass
before the cone, the driver will be docked 2 places for every one you gain.
(Example: Pass 1 kart before
the cone and you will be scored 2 spots back at the end of the race).
If you are beside a kart at the cone that will be considered a pass even
if the driver is not successful in getting completely past the kart.
YELLOW
FLAG: The yellow flag means
SLOW DOWN NOW! There is no racing
under yellow.
We
do NOT race back to the yellow flag; restart lineup is based on the last
completed lap. In Sr. classes, if
you cause the yellow flag to come out twice you will be black flagged off the
track. In Jr. classes, if you cause
the yellow flag to come out three times you will be black flagged off the track
except for Jr. I novice and kid kart classes.
If you spin out or have trouble with your kart DO NOT get out of your
kart until the yellow flag has been displayed and the field is slowed down.
Track officials will help you with your kart after the field is slowed.
NO-FAULT
RULING FOR CAUTIONS: If
you caused a caution, please go to the tail immediately so the race can be
re-started in a timely manner. If
you are involved in a caution that you did not cause, the track officials will
send the kart that caused the caution to the tail and you will maintain your
position as per the last completed lap. However,
if it is the officials opinion that you were not “an innocent victim” of the
caution (pushing and rough driving, etc. between both/all racers that were
involved); more that one kart may restart on the tail.
If an unanimous decision cannot be reached by officials, all karts
involved will be sent to the tail in a lineup order as they crossed the
start-finish line on the last completed lap.
We are not perfect, so expect that all decisions and judgments will not
always go in your favor. The track
officials have got to make calls based on the way they see it, at the moment it
happens without benefit of instant replays.
Keep in mind that you are watching one kart and we are watching the
entire field of karts. Without a
doubt, calls will differ from time to time the way someone else may see it.
We assure you that all calls by track officials are made without
prejudice. All track
officials decisions will be final.
RED
FLAG: Stop your kart as quickly
as possible in a safe manner on the track.
This means something has happened that for yours and others safety,
everyone needs to stop ASAP! Family or crew members are not allowed on the track
during a red flag until track officials allow you to do so.
One crew member per kart only will be allowed on the track.
Engines may be turned over to close valves when the crew member arrives
to the kart then they must step away from the kart.
Track officials have the right to determine if a safety measure (i.e.:
ripping off a broken nose piece) is permitted for a driver to finish a race.
Any work done on a kart other than work approved by a track official will
result in being black flagged for that race.
LAY-OVER
FLAG (Blue with Stripe): Continue
racing, but move to the high side of the track and allow leader to pass.
Lapped kart driver only needs to move up one kart width out of the
racing groove to allow the leader to pass.
Attempts to impede, or race with leaders who has gained a lap on you will
result in the kart that received the lay-over flag to be black-flagged.
CROSSED
FLAGS: When you see any two
racing flags (usually the white and checkered flags) in a crossed position, this
means the race is half over.
WAVING
HAND: When the flagman shows
two open hands during longer races this means there are 10 laps to go.
When the flagman displays one open hand this means 5 laps to go.
“TWO
TO GO” FLAGS: When the
flagmen displays two rolled up flags (usually the white and the checkered) side
by side this means there are two laps to go.
WHITE
FLAG: This flag means
there is one lap left in the race. The
drivers can’t always count the laps, so this white flag lets them know that
there’s one lap to go before the finish.
CHECKERED
FLAG: The checkered flag means
the race is over, the first driver to receive the checkered flag is the winner
of the race.
BLACK
FLAG: A driver may
receive a black flag for one of these reasons, but not limited to these reasons:
[Rolled black flag is a “warning”; the Waved black flag means you must leave
the track!]
1.
You have caused 2 cautions in a Sr. Class race (3 cautions in the
Jr. Classes)
2.
Rough Driving.
3.
It is determined that your kart may not be safe to continue
racing.
4.
If a member of your crew enters the track or approaches the
flagman during a race.
5.
Stopping, spinning out, or pausing on the track in an attempt to
bring out the yellow flag.
6.
Not complying with the Lay-over flag.
7.
General Unsportsmanlike Conduct from a driver or his/her pit crew
member(s).
ADJUSTING
THE FINISH: Track management
reserves the right to adjust the finish if they feel a driver blatantly takes
out another driver or causes a caution on the last lap of the race.
The flagman may not display the caution flag
while the race is in progress after the white flag is waved if the race can
finish safely. If you spin out or
have trouble with your kart after the white flag is displayed please try to get
your kart to a safe location so we can complete the races.
DO NOT at any time get out of your kart to move it until the yellow flag
has come out and the field is slowed down.
However, a driver (or drivers) may be penalized if track officials deem
necessary and the finish results will be adjusted accordingly.
ENDING
A RACE: All races will be
given a 1-MINUTE PER LAP TIME LIMIT to get the race completed.
After that time limit is expired, the race will end when the next caution
comes out or when all laps for that race have been completed whatever comes
first.
RAIN-OUTS:
The track will attempt to call the rain-out in adequate time.
If the show has started we will make every attempt to get the track back
into racing condition and continue. If it is not possible to continue, the
following rules will be implemented: If
a feature line-up has been established (both heat races completed), that will be
the official finish order for the event and payout and points will be awarded
accordingly. Any feature races
completed prior to the rain-out will of course take precedence over this rule
and be the official results for that class. If
the first heat races are completed and the show rains out before the second heat
races are completed, all race entry monies will be refunded only, (no pit pass
refunds for anyone in attendance). If
the event rains out after one or both hot lap (practice) sessions, there will be
no pit pass refund for the drivers only (driver will be given a refund on race
entry fee only, driver will return his/her wristband to receive their race entry
money). Everyone besides the driver
will be given a pit pass refund if only the practice sessions took place. Track
management reserves the right to amend these guidelines (example: near the
completion of the Heat #2 races or feature races at a points event may be
continued on the next or a re-scheduled race date).
NOTE: IF a pit
pass refund is to be given, refund will only be paid when wristband is returned
to registration office. Refunds are
given on the day of the rained-out event ONLY!
Racer’s
Responsibility: It is the
racer’s responsibility to listen to track announcements; view the website; or
make phone calls for current updates or additional information (example:
rain-out
TECH
General
Information: If parts or
an entire engine needs to be changed after participating in Heat Race #1, the
tech official needs to be notified first.
Parts, or entire engine will be impounded.
After the race should the driver’s engine be subject to tech, the parts
or entire engine impounded will also be subject to the same tech.
All drivers must attend the mandatory drivers meeting! The tech official
may announce various tech procedures for that race day at this meeting (example:
every engine will be marked before leaving the scale area after the first heat
race or possibly a fuel test will be done before or after a race).
It is the racer’s responsibility to comply with tech or he/she will be
disqualified. Only clear alcohol is
permitted, no additives. Alcohol rule applies to ALL classes.
No additives in 2 cycle classes including Open and Kids Karts.
In the gas class, racer can only use pump gas (no additives or racing
gas). It is the decision of the
tech official of what engine parts are to be subject to tech; varying weekly.
Scales:
Upon completion of heat races and feature races, karts MUST proceed to
the scales. If minimum weight is
not met, the competitor will not receive any points for that race.
Top five (5) finishers after the feature event must report to tech.
If you are unsure if are in the top five, do not leave the scale area
until you receive the finish results. Failure
to report directly to the tech area, will automatically disqualify your kart if
you were among the top five finishers.
Refusing
Tech: Anyone refusing tech will
forfeit all points and money for that event.
Anyone refusing tech a second time will lose all points accumulated in
that class for the year, and will be limited to racing only in the open class,
or make arrangements to have their motor teched prior to any future racing in
any of the classes subject to motor tech. Anyone
refusing to be teched under a protest will lose points and money for that event.
Protest
Fee and Requirements: A $75
cash protest must be presented to the tech official prior to any tech (within 3
minutes of the completion of his/her race).
If the engine protested passes tech, $75 will go the racer/owner being
protested. If the engine protested
does not pass tech, the protester receives his/her $75 protest fee back.
Only protest money that will be accepted by the tech official will be
from a driver (or owner) entered in the same class as being protested.
IF you intend to protest an engine, you should approach the tech official
prior to the completion of a race in order that the kart can be impounded at the
scale area and not be taken back to his/her pit area.
If
a driver is disqualified for a reason that it is apparent to the tech official
and race director that was an intentional wrongdoing, a verbal warning is given
at the first offense in addition to loss of money and points for that event.
Additionally, if the driver is found guilty of a second intentional
offense, the driver and kart will be banned from the track for a period of a
minimum of two races and a maximum of 30 races.
Juniors “Moving Up”: A racer that is age appropriate may move up one class for two races only and still be permitted to move back down if the parents or track officials do not feel the racer is ready for that class. After the 3rd time racing in the higher class, the racer will not be permitted to move back down.
